Nowadays, digital is the norm of marketing. But this is creating a hole in the market to fill – 70% of consumers say direct mail is more personal than online interactions.
And personalization is a massive part of modern marketing!
The latest DMA report found that direct mail’s response rate is at 4.9% for prospect lists and 9% for house lists – which outperforms social media (1%), email (1%), and paid search (1%).
In fact, if you took those digital response rates, combined them, and THEN tripled that response rate, they would only then be as effective as house mailings.
And that’s who you’re sending to!
When you send out marketing messaging, obviously you want people to read it. But that isn’t always the case.
Your best chance of being seen is using direct mail, which boasts a 42.2% read or at least scan their marketing mail.
For email on the other hand, across all industries, 25% would be an excellent open rate. However, most hover in the 5%-15% range.
Whatever marketing method you choose, the best piece of advice I can give is to market consistently.
Response rates increase exponentially the more you send!
Just think of it this way – do you ever remember a billboard when you pass it for the first time? Probably not. But after the third or fourth time, you will!
